Kanye West admitted he was hospitalized for opioid addiction, radio host Ebro Darden said on his show.
Darden said on New York radio station Hot 97 Monday that he had spoken to West about his recent string of tweets, where he announced two new albums and praised alt-right figures including Scott Adams and Candace Owens.
According to Darden, West defended his tweets and said he felt isolated while in the hospital. West was hospitalized in late 2016. According to NBC News, the hospitalization was "for his own health and safety."
"He went on to talk about, 'Nobody really showed love for me when I was addicted for opioids and in the hospital,'" Darden said.
West also defended meeting with Donald Trump, according to Darden. West met with then-President Elect Donald Trump at New York's Trump Tower in late 2016. Darden said that West supported Trump and felt shunned by former President Barack Obama.
"'Well, I reached out to Obama and he couldn't get anything done, and Trump gave me a meeting,'" West said, according to Darden.
