  • Embattled Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein turned himself in to police on Friday morning on criminal charges including rape and sexual misconduct.
  • Some of Weinstein's accusers, including Asia Argento and Rose McGowan, have responded to the news.
  • Other celebrities are joining them in hoping for justice.

Harvey Weinstein's accusers are reacting to the Hollywood producer's arrest after turning himself in Friday morning.

Actress Asia Argento, who accused Weinstein of raping her, tweeted Friday, "Today Harvey Weinstein will take his first step on his inevitable descent to hell. We, the women, finally have real hope for justice."

In another tweet, she shared a BBC clip of Weinstein walking into the police station and wrote, "What took you so long Harvey?"

Rose McGowan, who accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting her back in 1997, was on ABC's "Good Morning America" Friday to discuss the 66-year-old Weinstein's arrest.

"I have to admit I didn't think I would see the day that he would have handcuffs on him," she said.

She also tweeted, "We got you, Harvey Weinstein, we got you."

When the news was first announced on Thursday that the mogul would be turning himself in Friday morning, McGowan posted a hopeful message for justice on her Instagram.

"I, and so many of Harvey Weinstein's survivors, had given up hope that our rapist would be held accountable by law," she wrote. "Twenty years ago, I swore that I would right this wrong. Today we are one step closer to justice. We were young women who were assaulted by Weinstein and later terrorized by his vast network of complicity. I stand with my fellow survivors. May his arrest give hope to all victims and survivors everywhere that are telling their truths."

Weinstein turned himself in to police in New York on criminal charges including rape and sexual misconduct based on allegations from two women.

One of the women, Lucia Evans, told the New Yorker in October, that Weinstein sexually assaulted her in his office in 2004.

The marketing consultant told reporter Ronan Farrow Thursday that she was pressing charges.

"At a certain point, you have to think about the greater good of humanity, of womankind," she said.

Weinstein left the station in handcuffs and was taken to a courthouse where he gave up his passport. Variety reported that he will not be allowed to leave the states of New York and Connecticut. The New York Times reported that part of his bail required him to wear a monitoring device

He has entered a plea of not guilty.

His arrest follows bombshell reports from The New York Times and New Yorker detailing Weinstein's alleged sexual misconduct. Since the reports were first published in October 2017, more than 50 women came forward with allegations against Weinstein.

Other Hollywood celebrities are also reacting to the news.
